April/May 2008:
Our games were given the theme of planes and the air. Paper aeroplanes were made by the Beavers; they then tried to aim and land them in a hoop on the floor – easier said than done! The boys were asked to find out information on any Air Activity: and we had an enjoyable evening listening to some interesting talks on: The Red Arrows, a Harrier Jump Jet, the Stealth Fighter, a Rescue Helicopter, Concorde, a Boeing 747, the MIG 25 Foxbat, the Spitfire, the Stuka, the Grob and the Voyager aircraft. On the last week of this badge one of the Beaver Dad’s, a pilot, visited us and answered questions that the boys had. Many thanks to Mr Pitcher for helping us out with this badge work.
We were lucky enough to have a sunny day for our adventure – sun cream was a must. We went in teams around Bournemouth Lower Gardens with a quiz sheet and found the answers in the gardens and around the pier. After lunch we were given a guided tour around the Oceanarium, which was very interesting. All of our Beavers attended this day out and have earned themselves – The Adventure Badge (Activity Badge) and also this has gone part way to their Fitness Challenge Badge.
This trip also went towards their Fitness Challenge Badge. We had another good turn out for this activity and the boys certainly enjoyed themselves. To start with the boys practiced catching and throwing skills in game form. Then they were shown batting skills. The boys were also given a special treat by being shown the automatic bowling machine, which threw a ball out at 60mph and then 90mph into the special nets – the boys were amazed at how fast it was. A good game of cricket was held at the end and all the Beavers had a turn at batting, throwing and fielding – they all did very well.Well done to James M and ‘Greenwood’ for ‘catching out’ 1 and 2 boys respectively. Many thanks to Mark Rushmore, cricket coach, for his time and expertise.
To Alice In Wonderland Adventure Playground
Once again we were extremely lucky with the weather.
The Beavers had a lovely time being able to go on most of the rides including the Flying Elephants, Cup & Saucer and the Train ride. They watched the Alice in Wonderland Show and had a good run and climb on the Adventure Playground. Several chose to have a donkey ride, while others played on the Fort.
Greenwood happily went on some of the rides with the boys and well done to a few of the taller boys for daring to go on the Swinging Galleon, Saffron and Rose (both went on this twice!)
A very enjoyable day was had by all and well done to the boys for their good behaviour.
