On Sunday 20 September 2009, instead of our usual Harvest Church Parade, we were tasked with organising and conducting the service ourselves. (Click on title to read the article)
The Scouts introduced the theme of our service which was 'Farming in Africa' and then involved the whole congregation in writing a prayer. Many key words were suggested by the congregation which were incorporated into the prayer:
Dear God,
Please hear our prayer for the farmers in Africa.
May they produce enough crops to feed their families.
Please give them fertile soil to sow the seeds in and the tools to till the soil.
We pray for sunshine and rainfall to help the crops grow and also give their animals enough food and water to keep them healthy.
We thank you Lord,
Amen
The Beavers enacted the first verse of 'We Plough the Fields and Scatter' and the Cubs compared the lives of a farmer's son in England with his counterpart in Tanzania.
