First District Cooking Competition |

On 25 March we took part in the first East Dorset District Scouts Cooking Competition. We entered two teams, achieving an excellent 2nd and 3rd places. With grateful thanks to 'The Merchant of Venice' in Ferndown for supplying us with authentic ingredients and for advice on how to use them to best effect. See article for detailed menus.
Our two menus were:
- Garlic Bread (with mozarella cheese and olive oil)
- Bistecche alla Pizzaiola (steak with tomato, garlic and olive sauce) served with
- Sicilian Caponata (courgette, onion and red pepper with a sweet and sour dressing)
- Tira mi Su (a cream, chocolate and cake dessert, which translates as 'Pick-me-up')

- Calamari fritti (fried squid seasoned with salt, pepper and lemon juice)
- Penne con Broccoli e Prosciutto (pasta with broccoli and ham)
- Caramel Oranges (fresh oranges with a caramel sugar glaze
