Camps

What type of camps do Longham Scouts do?

The first thing to know is that no two camps are quite the same. Some of our camps can be broadly categorised and there are some regular camping events run by the District, County and further afield:

  • Survival Camps
  • Forestry and Campsite Service Camps
  • Skills Camps
  • Fun Camps

Regular Camps

  • Troop half-term camps (spring, summer and autumn).
  • Goose - Dorset county summer camp (every 3 years or so).
  • District Camp - usually at the end of May at the County Camp Site.
  • Order of the Boot - District night hiking competition.
  • Dartmoor - District expedition training weekend.
  • World Jamboree (every 4 years).

Feel like running your own?

We encourage Scouts to organise their own camps if and when they feel they would like to take responsibility. This means that the camp can be planned exactly how you like it with the activities that you enjoy. This is no mean feat though. It is a lot of hard work but can be very rewarding. If you feel like you might want to take up this challenge, then we advise that you read the Camp Planning resource page.
